Transparency

A city clerk is a public official whose principal duties include keeping records or accounts for the municipality and other duties prescribed by law. The position is central to government transparency because the clerk is responsible for keeping and making official records and legislation accessible to city residents.

As a FOIA Officer for the City of Evanston, the City Clerk is responsible of making sure residents can submit public records request to inspect public records and learn about the activities being conducted by the government body.

I am a firm believer that if a body of government is to advocate on the behalf of the people it seeks to govern, then it must do so with the intention of disclosing information for the general public to review. The trust from the people will never be achieved if the actions and transactions of the public body is concealed from them.
